THE CONCEPT

Mistletopia is a dark-satire experiment in AI-native storytelling. A parody luxury Christmas store selling witty, high-fashion products that blend traditional ink illustration with AI creative. But a great product line without a world behind it is just a catalogue (and no fun at all). And so, I built it.

By blending a 1950s Stepford aesthetic with an all-canine cast styled in Balenciaga and Chanel, I stress-tested the limits of character development, satirical voice-acting, and experimental brand storytelling. Old-school mafia plotlines. David LaChapelle's hyper-real maximalism. Hitchcock-inspired scores. Every reference chosen deliberately to build a brand universe strange enough to stop people scrolling and compelling enough to keep them watching.

The proof of concept was this. A fully realised brand world, a content engine, and a live e-commerce store, produced in days not months, at a fraction of what traditional methods would cost.

The cinematic shorts form the narrative backbone of the project. They were designed not simply as promotional content, but as a way to test whether AI-generated characters could sustain believable personality, tension, and emotional continuity across scenes.

Each film focused on directing synthetic personas with precision, from voice performance and pacing to visual framing and behavioural consistency. The challenge was to move beyond novelty and demonstrate that AI-native characters could feel expressive, and engaging to watch.

This became the true proof of concept. It showed that, when created with clear direction, synthetic characters can hold narrative weight and carry audience attention without the presence of a human actor.

Mistletopia extends beyond film into a fully realised e-commerce universe. I used Midjourney, Leonardo, and Photoshop Generative Fill to place physical parody luxury products inside AI-generated environments, removing the need for location scouting, studio builds, and the production overhead that usually comes with both.

The result is a luxury lookbook aesthetic produced at a fraction of traditional studio cost, roughly five per cent of a typical shoot budget. This demonstrates how AI creative production can shift both the speed and economics of high-end visual production.

NARRATIVE

Sound is often where synthetic production reveals its limitations, so getting it right required going far beyond basic generation.

I built custom ElevenLabs voice personas from scratch and directed them to deliver dry, satirical emotion through the canine leads. This involved careful fine-tuning within the Speech-to-Speech pipeline to shape pacing, stability, and tonal nuance until every pause felt intentional and every breath felt placed.

Combined with curated sound design and tension-driven scoring, the result is audio that actively supports the narrative, rather than simply accompanying it.
